Artists Statement.

Having spent her formative years as an artist in Cornwall Marie Murphy now lives in London.

Whilst working as a professional artist Marie Murphy has continually pushed oil paint and related media to fully understand the full nature and capabilities of the material. In each painting the material is her primary concern.

The various methods used in the application of paint both building up on the surface and stripping layers away from it are questioned at every stage.

The reaction of paint upon paint with the addition of various mediums produces effects she cannot always plan. This unknown element in painting is an exciting component she has learnt to use as much as any other.

Personal experience, whether profound or mundane act as a vehicle for the paint. Marie takes this inspiration from an endless supply of sources such as conversations with friends, her local environment and mass media to name a few. .
