ARTISTS STATEMENT

Over the years Jane Beecroft has always been involved with the arts by teaching. lecturing and doing her own work, primarily in ceramics. In December 1996 Jane stopped lecturing in order to devote more time to her own artistic development by concentrating primarily on two dimensional work.

Jane is concerned with the spiritual aspect in art and aims to explore the creative process by endeavoring to get in touch with the 'inner reality' which she believes is linked with a universal energy.

Her works aim to demonstrate the interconnection of all things from the real to the unreal. from within to without from the microcosm to the macrocosm - to a sense of the eternal.

Jane says "the images stem from an internal process with the interplay of conscious thought, aesthetic sense, intuition and spontaneity.

The images created are therefore a synthesis of the inner and outer world of my experience and are an external expression of the fundamental choice of what personally is considered important or relevant."

Dealing with light, energy, colour, the metaphysical and internal sensations that have physical and emotional response, Jane says that it is the inner nature or truth in reality that concerns her. A romantic at heart, some of Jane's recent work has been inspired by nature, natural phenomena and the emotional response these create within her.

Jane's recent trip to Zimbabwe to see the solar eclipse has influenced her strongly. Her experiences there, the quality of light, colours, sense of space and the incredible landscape has inspired her.

Jane's work is not purely representational, drawing strongly on her imagination and combining unusual painting techniques and materials to create abstract quality within her work.

Jane has experimented widely with different methods and materials to achieve the result she requires and also draws on her knowledge of ceramic techniques in producing images.

Excited by the variety of materials and techniques available, Jane explains that "spray paint, hologram paper, acetates etc, can all be used to create a kind of magic, crackle paint is fun because it cannot be totally controlled and the colour and lines which gradually appear give me a foundation to work on."
