ARTISTS STATEMENT My recent work has been inspired by my everyday environment. I have been interested by ephemeral observations and have attempted to capture the fleeting presence of a shadow on a veil. The closer I look at something the more I find that I can see. I am interested in making visible the quiet things that could easily be overlooked; the poignancy of expression contained within the way a curtain hangs or the way a flower stretches itself upon a stalk. Recently, I have been interested by ephemeral observations and have been attempting to capture the fleeting presence of a shadow on a veil; which is an illogical presence, but the feeling of something strange existing beneath the surface of an image intrigues me. By limiting myself to the exploration of one subject, I can enjoy the freedom to then undertake an adventure with the materials, exploring the language of painting.
